Assignments and Responsibilities: Provide executive leadership to three corporate divisions providing biomedical research support to government agencies, academic institutions and the biotechnology industry and chemical and biological warfare agent detection for government agencies. Responsible for expanding the depth and breadth of the firm's scientific and technical expertise in the fields of comparative medicine, molecular biology, genetics, pathology, and toxicology. Responsible for operations, strategic planning and business development including expansion into new business areas. Profit and loss responsibilities for the company with over 700 employees and combined annual revenues exceeding $52 million.
Accomplishments: Lead effort to design, construct, commission and operate corporate laboratory complex at the Johns Hopkins Science and Technology Park, Baltimore MD. Successfully lead effort to expand corporate capabilities to include contract research focusing on preclinical drug discovery and toxicology services for pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Doubled the size of the Biomedical Services Division by implementing business development programs and operational improvements resulting in sustained growth each year since appointment. Successfully lead the effort to diversify SoBran’s customer base beyond government contracting to include scientific and technical support to academic and commercial clients. Lead effort to obtain initial ISO-9001: 2000 certification for the Biomedical Services Group and subsequent recertification to ISO-9001-2008 standard.

Assignments and Responsibilities: Corporate Director: For environmental research and technical support contracts with federal agencies including: the U.S. EPA’s National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL), Cincinnati OH; the National Health Effects and Environmental Research Laboratory, Duluth MN; and the Large Lakes Research Station, Grosse Ile MI. Provide corporate policy and management direction to Program Managers collectively managing some 50 SoBran employees and an annual budget of $3.0 million. Provide program management for an on-site research contract with U.S. EPA NERL, directly supervising 30 professional staff in 6 work assignments at NERL-Cincinnati, and field monitoring programs across the Mid-Atlantic region. Technical areas include: analytical chemistry; environmental modeling, GIS and environmental statistics; macroinvertebrate and algal taxonomy; field monitoring for water monitoring programs in VA, NC, WV and OH; gene expression (cytochrome P450; metallothionein; vitellogenin) in aquatic organisms; aquatic toxicology; and molecular indicators of exposure to xenobiotic chemicals.
